WELCOME BACK!
I finally completed my second piece of the series! This piece definitely took a while but I feel pretty okay about the outcome. However, I feel like something is missing from the piece. Either way, the process of creating it went pretty smooth, the only issue I ran into was having to do a lot of layers over the black since I was using such bright and light colors over the black. I am considering going back to rework this piece after I am finished with my next pieces, but I am still debating if I need to. Anyway, I am now getting started on my next piece and hoping to get started creating it soon.
My next piece's theme is Soulmate.
WHAT IS A SOULMATE?
Soulmates are the ones that make you feel the most. Their job is to make us go into deep self-reflection and answer those important questions about ourselves. A soulmate is not limited to just a lover; it could also be a friend or family member!
Considering that for this piece I did not want to create the emotion of deep intimate feelings between two people, but a deep sense of comfort and understanding instead, I approached it differently. Throughout the process of generating ideas for the topic soulmate, I thought of the phrase “ someone you can lean on.” so that is why most of my sketches consist of two people leaning on each other. And since a soulmate could essentially be a family member, friend, or romantic partner, I wanted to keep the facial expressions limited so it doesn’t limit the viewer from thinking about a romantic partner. Rather as a viewer, you could see yourself and a best friend or sibling in these sketches.
Overall, my idea is still a work in process and I can’t get a solid grip on which composition I'm leaning towards. Nonetheless, I do have the color scheme finalized and the idea of leaning on someone as a starting point. As for the colors I wanted to do a lot of cool tones, and create that feeling of comfort. I felt that using vibrant colors would not have communicated my idea correctly.

However, I felt like my idea was just another copy of my previous ones, so I decided to take a different route while creating this piece. The sketch in the bottom left is what I want to go for instead. I think it interprets the idea of feeling a deep connection and understanding with someone better, and I like how it shows no form of intimacy. For this piece, I am planning on doing it digitally because I felt that I could not paint so many individual lines.
I added the pop of gold to contrast the blue and purple tones, and also to emphasize the connection of their minds. I thought using anatomy would be an interesting way to switch up my series, but I also think when I am done it will still fit in with my other pieces due to the use of thin wispy linework. Keep in mind that the sketch is nowhere near done, I just wanted to get the idea down until I can finalize it.
ARTIST INSPO
When looking for inspiration I found Elizabeth. She is a freelance artist that creates illustrations with watercolor and photoshop. Her anatomy art is very beautiful and I was very inspired by her use of color and negative space, and how her ideas are abstract but you can still identify the anatomy.

As an artist, I felt that I needed to start pushing my art further, and stray away from sticking with ideas I am super comfortable with. Viewing Erzebetth's art made me realize I could work with anatomy, while still keeping my ideas abstract but identifiable. Her work is very interesting, and looking at it you can see that she put a lot of thought and thorough detail in her use of positioning things. She uses negative space very well and her pieces look complete even though they don't have a background. Her work was very inspiring and I hope to be able to be successful with creating my next piece, keeping the use of negative space in mind.
